In the centre of the island are Ubud and the Tegallalang and Jatiluwih rice terraces; the subak irrigation system is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple stands right on a mountain lake.

In the south are ocean beaches and the cliffs of Uluwatu; in the north-east is Mount Batur, which people climb for the sunrise.

Getting there
Fly direct to Denpasar with Aeroflot from Moscow or with a connection; on the island, get around by taxi, with a driver for the day or by scooter.
Fees and tickets
The Bali tourist levy is 150,000 rupiah per foreigner, paid at lovebali.baliprov.go.id.

Komodo

Access 3/5 · needs planningJFMAMJJASOND

Komodo National Park is the only place on Earth where Komodo dragons, the largest lizards on the planet, live in the wild. You see them only with a ranger.

From the top of Padar Island you see three bays with sand of different colours. Under water are some of the best reefs in Indonesia, with manta rays and turtles.

Getting there
Fly to Labuan Bajo (about an hour from Bali), then a day boat or a cruise of several days.
Fees and tickets
Entry is 250,000 rupiah a day, and diving 25,000 more per dive. Since 01.04.2026 all visits have been by booking only, through the SiOra system, within a daily quota.
Why it’s hard
Getting there takes connections, you move around the park only by boat, and you go near the dragons only with a ranger. Since 01.04.2026 there has been a daily quota, and booking is mandatory.

Raja Ampat

Access 4/5 · hardJFMAMJJASOND

Raja Ampat is an archipelago off New Guinea with an extraordinary diversity of marine life: hundreds of coral species and more than a thousand fish species have been recorded here. You can snorkel right off the jetty.

Above the water rise the karst islands of Wayag and Piaynemo: the view from their tops is one of the great postcards of Indonesia.

Getting there
Fly to Sorong via Jakarta or Makassar, then take the ferry to Waigeo Island (about 2 hours); from there, boats and cruise yachts.
Fees and tickets
The environmental fee is the PIN card: about 500,000 rupiah according to Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism; travel websites report 1,000,000 from 2026 — this is not officially confirmed.
Why it’s hard
Remote even by Indonesian standards: several flights, a ferry and boats. An environmental fee is required, and most of life here happens on the water, where expedition yachts are expensive.

Since 01.10.2025 the All Indonesia electronic declaration has been mandatory for all arrivals, within 3 days before landing. Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity, and you need a return ticket. Bali has a separate tourist levy.

Budget

prices 1.2 times lower than in Russia · price level 0.31 (US = 1), 2025

Prices are slightly lower than in Russia. Mandatory costs are the 500,000-rupiah visa, the 150,000-rupiah Bali levy and Komodo entry at 250,000 rupiah a day.

The price level is the ratio of purchasing power parity for household consumption to the market exchange rate (World Bank). These are national averages: resorts and capitals cost more, the countryside less. Flights are not included.
